Elected in May 2010, Claudia is a Councillor (Labour Party) for the London Borough of Islington. As a Councillor for the Bunhill Ward she pioneered the award winning Bunhill Heat and Power Network providing residents with cheaper, more efficient energy from waste heat to tackle climate change and fuel poverty. Claudia is the Executive (Cabinet) Member for Environment and Transport and a Board Director of the Council’s trading company iCo, established to use innovation, new technology and ideas to realise the Council’s income potential. She established the municipally run Angelic Energy, which provides a challenge and alternative to the “Big Six”  Claudia is a member of the European Union Committee of the Regions, influencing  decisions for cities and regions across the UK.

 

Claudia has a professional background in equality and diversity, having run two independent race equality councils. Claudia was a political and senior advisor to the first Mayor of London and thus part of a ground-breaking administration that delivered record police numbers, falling crime and neighbourhood policing in every part of London and progressive policies like the abolition of all bus and tram fares for the U18s. Claudia was an independent equality advisor to the Football Association and a former trustee of National Energy Action (NEA), campaigning to end fuel poverty and a former trustee of the Childrens Society. She was also a board director of Homes for Islington. Claudia was one of the founders and former Chair of Operation Trident tackling the disproportionate effects of gun murders on Black communities. Claudia is an independent advisor to the National Chief Police Council’s Criminal Use of Firearms.
