Michael became a county councillor in 2009, making use of the skills he had learnt as a solicitor, community champion and borough councillor in South Ribble. He has served at Lancashire County Council as a Lead Member, Cabinet Member and Opposition Spokesman, together with performing the duties of Group Secretary.
Having been re-elected for the third time in May, Michael was appointed as Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Environment & Planning. He is passionate about promoting Lancashire, with its 50,000 businesses, leading universities, advanced manufacturing, engineering, aerospace, rural economy and warm local people. Michael firmly believes that the county is the place to do business - and that with improved infrastructure, Lancashire can be the engine of the Northern Powerhouse.
In his spare time, Michael enjoys travel, sport and of course politics, as the chairman of his local constituency association.
