Carey Oppenheim- Chief Executive, Early Intervention Foundation

Minutes:

Sir Merrick welcomed Carey Oppenheim, Chief executive- Early Intervention Foundation (EIF), and invited her to address members on early intervention and the role of the Foundation.

 

Ms Oppenheim thanked the LGA for their continued support and proceeded to outline;

 

·         The challenge and the case for early intervention.

·         The background and role of the EIF, to; Assess, advise and advocate.

·         How the EIF can assist local authorites through their pioneering places programme.

·         Examples of successful local approaches.

·         Future steps and what is required to achieve change.

 

Members discussed:

·         Cultural issues and demographic pressures on children’s services.

  • The cross-party support for Early Intervention.
  • The crucial role of Workforce in this area and how local authorities are increasingly looking at multi-disciplinary teams around the family.

 

Ms Oppenheim highlighted the LGA as potentially having a key role in catalysing local and national leadership and asked the organisation to assist with this moving forward.
