Trade and Inward Investment

Minutes:

Daniel Shamplin-Hall, Adviser, introduced item four outlining the LGA’s improvement work to support councils on trade and investment. This included the production of a guide for local authorities on attracting foreign capital investment into local areas.  

 

The Chairman praised officers for the work undertaken. He outlined the need to continue to engage with Department for International Trade at an appropriate point to ensure the needs of SMEs and micro-businesses are met by the export support policy framework.

 

Decisions

 

1.    Members noted the LGA’s progress on trade and investment over the current bard cycle, including policy and public affairs activity, as well as improvement support.

2.    Members noted and agreed to the draft guide for local authorities on foreign and private capital investment.

3.    Members agreed for the Board to maintain a watching brief on its trade and investment work until Government is in a better position to engage on this agenda.
