Cllr Jane Black serves on Bury Metropolitan Borough Council, where she is Cabinet Member for Corporate Affairs and Human Resources. She has previously served as Chair of Planning and held a number of Deputy Cabinet member positions.
Jane was a substitute member of the Safer and Stronger Communities Board in 2017-18, and stood down when she was appointed to serve as the Mayor of Bury for 2018-19.
Before becoming a Labour Councillor in 2012, Jane’s career began in the voluntary sector before she moved into local government. Working in three North West local authorities, she has managed a range of services including adult learning, corporate projects, community regeneration, children and young peoples’ services and work on tackling health inequalities. She has managed area-based arts regeneration programmes, and currently as a Cabinet Member has a strong involvement with the further development of her town as a successful tourist destination. Jane says “Culture, Tourism and Sport are essential to place-making they have helped to shape our towns and cities and have a vital role to play in future economic growth”
