Janet worked as a music teacher in Nottinghamshire and North Yorkshire before retiring from her career to stand for North Yorkshire County Council in 2011.

 

Initially elected at a by election representing the very rural division of “Thornton Dale and The Wolds”, she was a member of the Young People’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee. During her second term of office, she was given the role of Young Peoples Champion and chaired the Corporate Parenting Board before moving on to the executive in 2015 as Lead Member for Children’s Services.

 

Janet also served eight years as a district councilor, she is and has been a governor of several local schools and is currently a trustee of North Yorkshire Youth. She lives in the village of Thornton Le Dale with her husband and three cocker spaniels. Her hobbies include walking in the countryside and photography.
