Mark Norris, LGA Senior Adviser informed the Board that there were three bills from the Queen’s Speech that were of interest to this Board. The Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Bill had its first reading and was scheduled to have its second reading on 15 July 2014.

With regards to the Serious Crime Bill, the LGA briefing suggested that a greater share of recovered assets should be returned to local authorities under the asset recovery incentivisation scheme (ARIS). The LGA had also tabled an amendment to Bill which would make it an offence to promote and encourage FGM under the Female Genital Mutilation Act 2003.
