The Chair invited Mike Heiser, Senior Adviser, to introduce this item.  Mike gave an overview of the paper, which provided an update on the 2018/19 Provisional Local government Finance Settlement, that was announced by Government on 19 December 2017.  The paper also summarised the LGA’s response. 

The Chair thanked Mike for the update, and invited members to comment, where the following was discussed:

·         Members queried whether council tax referendum limits would reduce if inflation decreased.

·         Members also discussed the Transitional Grant which was intended to provide support for authorities which had lost due to distributional changes in the 2016/17 settlement.  Officers confirmed that the grant was for a two year period only.
