Peer Learning: the benefits of being a peer as part of the LGA Corporate Peer Challenge Programme

Minutes:

The Board noted the report.

Cllr Peter Fleming urged good councillors from all groups to put themselves forward for peer challenges noting that as much value is taken away by peers as by the councils themselves.

Members discussed issues relating to peer challenges, key points included:

  • It is important to continue to be proactive in promoting and highlighting the benefits of the peer challenge programme;
  • The composition of peer challenge teams is critical to the success of the programme; and
  • The process of recruiting and reviewing peers, including elected members, is a key part of the peer challenge programme. It is important to continually refresh the peer pool, but equally not to give peers unrealistic expectations.
