Title: Leader of the Runnymede Ind Residents Group
Representing: Runnymede Borough Council
Party: Residents Assocation
Political grouping: Independent
I was elected in 2000 to the Thorpe Ward of Runnymede Borough Council as an Independent Residents Councillor and joined a group of 7 others who made up the opposition.
I am currently Leader of the group and we work together as a sizeable opposition now.
I have served on various boards at the LGA including Resources and currently the EEHT. I served on the Committee of the Regions for two terms and led on environmental issues for the European Alliance. This included writing “opinions” on biodiversity, removing plastic from the waste stream and the introduction of the charge for plastic bags.
I am currently a member of the Congress of the Council of Europe monitoring elections and democracy at Local Authority level in 47 countries stretching as far as Turkey.
I am also a member peer for the Independent group.
My interests are based around environmental issues, land use and planning and I currently chair our Neighbourhood Plan Forum.
